Since seeing the Northern Lights in Finland in January 2013, I have wanted to see them even more than ever – considering the best conditions are right now. After working to all schedule vacation time together, my family took the trip of a lifetime into Alaska. We flew into Anchorage and proceeded to drive up to Fairbanks, where we would base ourselves for a week. Every night offered us a range of aurora lightshows, but on February 28th, everything aligned and the earth was struck with a powerful solar storm that created not only greens, but reds and whites in the night sky. Many said that the conditions were the best of 2014. Other memorable parts of this trip were flightseeing into Denali National Park, dogsledding along the river in Fairbanks, and spending quality family time together.
